# apis.tax
> Tax transcripts, by API: IRS transcripts, return fields and self-employed income, as typed records for the software lenders verify income with.

status: ROADMAP. The three surfaces are typed; none takes calls yet.
access: POST https://apis.finance/request-key with first_name, last_name, email and property=apis.tax, plus rows (the surface you need first), volume and building if you like (form or JSON).
audience: lenders and the software that verifies a borrower's income.
boundary: apis.tax prepares no returns, represents no taxpayer and signs nothing for one.

## Surfaces
- IRS transcripts (tax.transcript): ordered on the taxpayer's signed Form 4506-C through an IVES participant; the transcript type and tax years, with the consent, order and return dates. The IRS must receive a 4506-C within 120 days of signing.
- Return fields (return.fields): lines from the return (e.g. Schedule C lines 1, 13, 30 and 31; W-2 and 1099 fields), each with its form, tax year and line number.
- Self-employed income (income.analysis): Schedule C income added back the Fannie Mae Form 1084 way (net profit plus depreciation and business use of home, with any depletion, amortization, mileage depreciation, meals exclusion or nonrecurring income named), by year, with the trend and the 24-month average when income is stable or rising.

## Reserved acts
Each returns BLOCKED, naming the person the act belongs to (RESERVED_ACT with its tier, or CONSENT_REQUIRED). Refusals meter nothing.
- Preparing a return for pay: PREPARE_RETURN, tier LICENSED. A paid preparer with a PTIN.
- Representing a taxpayer before the IRS: REPRESENT_TAXPAYER, tier LICENSED. An attorney, CPA or enrolled agent, under Circular 230.
- Signing the 4506-C consent: SIGN_CONSENT, reason CONSENT_REQUIRED. The taxpayer signs; nothing here signs for them.
